Crossover between differents art disciplines.

The company B. Valiente has begun since 2002 with its performances KNUST and “ELSK” to make a crossover between different art disciplines. If the dance is always the centre of research, it has always been thought in a transversal way with other forms of expression. The performances “KNUST” ,” ELSK”, and “BODY BUSINESS”, are mixing dance, visual arts, theatre and architecture. The dancer becomes a performer of a show who progresses towards a multi-media form of expression. Transporting the stage to many places, carrying the choreographic proposition into locations such as jails, military bases, art galleries, churches,...etc, the company flirts with the notion of Land Art. The dance is not easily accessible, but demands an effort from the audience to access spaces far away from their own socio-cultural origin. The dancers have to adapt themselves and comprehend the different places where the performance is taking place.

Destructuration of space.

  The spectators, the dancers, the technicians, the journalists, are in the same space. New interactions appear who demand a different engagement of the public. The audience has to make its own choice, moving in the performance, and create, its own logic concerning the events and situations. The public is in front of different simultaneous events who offer more possibilities of interpretation. The technicians are visible and manipulate lights, sound equipment, props between the dancers and the public, changing constantly the focus, fragmenting the space and disturbing the attention. All is transparent, all is seen, the public is part of the event.

Collisions of spaces

With “BODY BUSINESS » (2005) the video is used, to increase the idea of destructuration of space. The video projectors, were manipulated among the audience, and send images who propose extensions of space, and create virtual places and audiences. The virtual and real operates mental collisions who give an impression to the public to be in forbidden places or situations. We want to give a feeling of insecurity to the audience (Feelings of kidnappings, experiments on human body, rapes, abductions, sections of organs... ). The video brings an unreal dimension of the space and the show. The people are forgetting the part of the real, and the virtual, mixing subjectivity and objectivity.

The main idea is that the feeling of insecurity we have in life is often a product of our fears that we create inside ourselves, and that the fear come from the interaction between the human being and its environment.
